This is a scholarship scheme that offers a valuable opportunity for postgraduate researchers to study for a PhD while teaching in subjects broadly related to their PhD research. The scholarships are worth £13,290 per year (2009-2010 levels) over three years. They are available to United Kingdom and European Union students and, in some research areas, International students. GTAs work with academic staff in a range of teaching, learning and assessment activities to support undergraduate student learning for 180 hours per academic year. Applicants for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship submit a PhD research application form (including a summary research proposal) and a covering letter that evidences experience of, and commitment to, university teaching and learning at undergraduate level.
