A colleague and I published a paper a few years ago about the dysfunctional aspects of mobile email. It's focused on corporate users, and doesn't reflect concerns about too much texting etc. (partially because the data was collected some time ago). But it does reflect the 'double-edged' sword nature of always-on devices, as Naomi Baron noted in her post. Middleton, C. A., & Cukier, W. (2006). Is Mobile Email Functional or Dysfunctional?
