Dear Professors and colleagues, I am starting a research using facebook data. I am newbie in this area and looking for a software or a way to automatically extract historical facebook data from (Arabic) facebook pages. Data needed include: - posts; - comments; - date &time of posts and comments; and - some information about people that post and comment (for example: name, gender, age, location,...etc as much as we can get). I tried NodeXL. It helped me collect much of these requirements but not the *date/time *of posts and comments and this is crucial for my study. I aim to study a social phenomenon and its evolution through time. *Can anyone advice or suggest another software?* I appreciate your advice/comments, Thank you all, Yours, *Noha A.Nagi* Lab assistant,Faculty of Economics & Political Science,Cairo University

Thanks everyone for your valuable suggestions. Thanks Anja, Stu, Jacob, Lauri and Joan ! I have tried and looked at all your suggestions. What fits most to my research requirements is DiscoverText and NodeXL. I am still doing some trials with both of them to decide the best one for me but I have a good understanding now of their functionality and of other software tools. I would love to help anyone with this if you ask. On Tue, Aug 5, 2014 at 11:30 AM, Anja Bechmann <anjabechmann@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi everybody, it seems I cannot use the NodeXL as my Excel version for Mac is not compatible. Anyhow, it might not be what I need. What I need is to be able to extract the user commentary from YouTube from a specific videos. It seems this is not possible with NodeXL as it seems to concentrate on visualisation of data. I will carry out a qualitative analysis of the comment exchanges between viewers. I tried to figure out the Google API, I'm under the impression there is a command that would allow you to extract the commentary to Excel by way of the =importXML query, but obviously I need the command line…and I'm not an engineer or a coder, unfortunately. Would there be anyone who would know how to do this? I appreciate any comments and suggestions and thank you all in advance :) Best, Anu Anu Harju anu.harju@aalto.fi<mailto:anu.harju@aalto.fi> @ablatiivi Doctoral Candidate, MA, BA Department of Management Studies Unit of Organizational Communication Aalto University School of Business Helsinki Finland On 28 Aug 2014, at 09:06, Noha Nagi <noha.a.nagi@gmail.com<mailto:noha.a.nagi@gmail.com>> wrote: Thanks everyone for your valuable suggestions.
