Position Description and Responsibilities: Contingent upon the availability of funding, the Departments of Communication and Journalism at The University of Arizona seek a scholar to conduct an active, theoretically-grounded research program, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise/mentor graduate students, and engage in service to the Departments and the University. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. We are seeking someone with research and teaching expertise in communication/information technology and society. Candidates from all specialties within this broad area are encouraged to apply (e.g., human-computer interaction/computer mediated communication, on-line journalism/computer-assisted reporting, internet culture, digital arts/interactive design).
The successful candidate will develop and teach an introductory undergraduate course in information technology and society. In addition, the candidate will teach courses relating to technology in his/her specialty area. It is likely that the candidate may form interdisciplinary connections to other units on campus. This position offers the unique opportunity to participate in a campus-wide effort at improving instruction and interdisciplinary research collaboration in technology, including most immediately working to refine the curriculum for a new interdisciplinary undergraduate minor in technology and society. Candidates should demonstrate a clear vision for the development of their research program, and a supportive, collegial, and interdisciplinary approach in their work.
Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. (or other appropriate terminal degree) in Journalism, Communication, Technology Studies, Digital Media, Information Sciences, Telecommunications or related disciplines, a solid and promising record of research in one of those areas, and evidence of teaching quality. ABDs will be considered. We are seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
