Post-doctoral research associate to work on the ERC-funded project 'Data Justice: Understanding datafication in relation to social justice' (DATAJUSTICE) at Cardiff University's Data Justice Lab. The research associate will be responsible for the work package on technological analysis and design. Research and responsibilities include: develop methods for investigating data-sets and software used for automated decision-making, identify and analyse issues of bias, discrimination and inequality in data systems in different institutional and social contexts, identify and develop social justice-informed design in collaboration with others, assist with organisational and administrative tasks in the running of the project. Research Associate - full-time and fixed term until 2020 (part-time applications will also be considered) Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum (Grade 6) Closing date for applications: 2 November 2017 Interview date: 8 November 2017 Start date: 1 February 2018 Person specification - essential criteria: Qualifications and Education 1. Postgraduate degree at PhD level in computer science or data science (or relevant industry experience) Knowledge, Skills and Experience 2. An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within one or a combination of the following research fields: (critical) data studies, algorithmic fairness and accountability, black box testing, reverse engineering, design justice 3. Knowledge of current status of research in specialist field 4. Proven ability to publish in national journals Communication and Team Working 5.
