FINAL Governing Conversations Event: 9/08 at 10 AM ET Interoperability (Cybersecurity)
*Join Governing Conversations <http://bit.ly/GovConv> next week on Thursday September 8th at 10 AM ET for our final event: Interoperability! Register here! <https://yale.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Gzk_HJUtTEKD0en2wJLmLQ>* A solution for a whole range of digital governance concerns, from access to platform regulation, that seems to be increasingly discussed is that of interoperability. A technical solution that requires a proper policy implementation, the concept of interoperability has the potential to both free users from constraints that are not useful to them, and to better protect them from cyber attacks, when applied to tools, models and standards in cybersecurity. Our panelists will discuss policy proposals, technical perspectives as well as more general theoretical ideas about what interoperability can and can’t do, and its inherent limitations. *Moderator*: *Ian Brown*, Visiting professor, CyberBRICS FGV *Scholars*: *Mehtab Khan*, Director, Yale/Wikimedia Initiative on Intermediaries and Information *Sukhi Gulati, *Internet Policy Research Assistant, MIT Internet Policy Research Institute *Amandine Le Pape*, Co-founder, Matrix.org; *Register here!* <https://yale.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Gzk_HJUtTEKD0en2wJLmLQ> More about the Cybersecurity Governing Conversations <https://www.digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations/#cybersecurity> events Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) Center for Technology and Society <https://direitorio.fgv.br/pesquisa/centro-de-tecnologia-e-sociedade> & CyberBRICS <https://cyberbrics.info/> Project joined the Governing Conversations event series, as a co-sponsor for the Cybersecurity theme! Following the success of the Platform Governance <https://www.digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations/#platformgovernance> and Access & Accessibility <https://www.digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations/#accessibility> themes of the event series initiated by the NYU Digital Interests Lab and Yale Law Information Society Project, the third and final theme, Cybersecurity, benefits from the knowledge and expertise of two world-class institutions from Rio de Janeiro, helmed by Prof. Luca Belli. The Cybersecurity Governing Conversations shines a spotlight on cybersecurity issues related to the Global South, the BRICS and the topic of interoperability. The first event in the theme, *Cybersecurity in the Global South* <https://www.digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations/#globalsouth> *,* was on July 21st at 10 am ET (*video here!* <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ilhg-SMc34>), with the following event, *BRICS and Cybersecurity* <https://www.digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations/#BRICS>, on August 18th at 10 am ET (*video here! <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oJBaPI4v90>*), and the final event, *Interoperability <https://www.digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations/#interop>*, on September 8th at 10 AM ET (*registration here! <https://yale.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Gzk_HJUtTEKD0en2wJLmLQ>*). This will be the final event of the entire series, with recordings of all the previous events available on the event series' website <http://digitalinterests.org/events/governing-conversations>.
