Ms Lattimore thanks for the followup and your thoughts. I've mostly given up trying to figure out why people do the research they do, and I've seen a lot worse papers in 45 years of refereeing. We agree that the media almost always oversimplify, and don't know the difference between causation and correlation -- nor such things as biased samples. (I note the sample was not really described.)
