the tone of these articles reminds me very much of the tone of some of the articles that follows Internet Research 1.0, which I reported on at 2.0. history repeats itself, but this one is particularly interesting because the BBC does not report on the people in the UK who are doing the same research. Thanks Charles, I look forward to you postings. After our recent discussions about the morality of using publically available data in this list it is interesting to learn that some researchers are just doing it. I wonder if these studies went through the Harvard/UCLA IRBs. If so, I'd love to see copies of the proposals. Putting the ethics of using publically available information aside, sites like Facebook, Second Life, and this list provide the opportunity to research avatars. Avatars are interesting but I would be really interested in learning how avatars correlate with their creators. To what extent are avatars "shadows on the wall?"
