JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
Assistant Professor in New Media Studies UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, RIVERSIDE Tenure track position, Department of Art History, appointment to commence July 1, 2003. The Department seeks a specialist in New Media Studies (the study of photographic and post-photographic art and theory, including video, the Internet, and other related digital media). Preference will be given to candidates with a background in the history of photographic media and an interest in teaching at and working with the UCR/California Museum of Photography in downtown Riverside, in working with UCRs growing number of specialists in digital arts and new media, and in engaging the University of California Digital Arts initiative. Also desirable are applicants who are interested in teaching courses that could be cross-listed in the Film and Visual Culture Program, Womens Studies, Gay and Lesbian Studies, Ethnic Studies, and/or other interdisciplinary programs. Teaching will include some introductory survey classes as well as a complement of upper-division courses and graduate seminars in New Media history and theory (the Department has a terminal M.A. program). Riverside is a vital community with easy access to vast art and library resources of the UC system and the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. Ph.D. required at time of appointment. Teaching experience, a strong commitment to teaching excellence, and a promising record of research and publication are required.
