[Fwd: [etc-int] SELF documentation]
-------- Original Message -------- Subject: [etc-int] SELF documentation Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2007 19:59:57 +0200 From: Celeste Hutchins <celesteh@gmail.com> Reply-To: /etc interested | international <etc-int@eclectictechcarnival.org> To: /etc interested | international <etc-int@eclectictechcarnival.org> Hi, I met a guy on the train last night who was involved in a FLOSS documentation project called SELF. Their website says, "SELF aims to be a community- driven platform for producing and distributing educational materials. It's sustainability depends on building a strong community of users and participants of this platform." They want to be the wikipedia of documentation and produce tutorials and helpfiles for every FLOSS tool. This could specifically be of interest for non-profits looking to use open source tools. One of the major weaknesses of FLOSS so far has been a macho geeks-only culture, which is reflected in it's lack of documentation. This effort could make FLOSS more attractive to the average user, and empowering them.
