Re: [Air-l] an AoIR related journal?
Just FYI, starting sometime in January, I will be chairing an AoIR executive committee to examine this and to look at publishing options for AoIR and members in general. /Caroline ---- Original message ----

I think it is somewhat disappointing that AoIR has not started its own online or offline journal as of yet, but I understand that it is truly up to the members to take the initiative and make that happen:) After which, they can affiliate with AoIR, if they wish. (iow, if you think we should have a journal, send me a note, I know of two fairly significant journal publishers who are interested in hearing proposals.)

I would really encourage you to consider the free/open on-line journal option, like a lot of journals in education ... And a lot of these are very good and well-respect journals http://aera-cr.asu.edu/ejournals/ ... Richard -- Richard H. I actually do not want to debate whether we have it or what kind it should be. I just want the people who want to have a journal to email me off list. so far, I have two. If there are only two, then it is clear to me, people are not concerned, nor are there enough people to make it work. On Dec 18, 2006, at 8:27 AM, Richard Hall wrote:
Dear Jeremy Having lurked on the list for some time (and having avoided pretty much all of the less polite and more time-consuming battles of will that are regularly fought out) I thought I should stand up and be counted as it were. I think that an AoIR journal would be a useful and important addition to the existing array within the field and fully support the idea. I have presented at conference previously and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, the crisis in funding that has hit many British universities means that getting to the USA and other international destinations has become far more difficult. A journal could be a way of sidestepping the financial issue. Regards Sharif Mowlabocus On 18 Dec 2006, at 13:33, Jeremy Hunsinger wrote:

I am one of the open-eyes dreamer of an aoir journal, and I am in! In the past , I have volunteered on the project of creating our journal, for the exec. The large majority of aoir members agreed in principle, but than making the project a reality was the real issue. Simply there were not enough resources 2 years ago, and the project was postponed to more mature conditions. An aoir journal is not a one-time project, or something we can do with 2 or 3 volunteers (I agree with Jeremy) ; creating an aoir journal means to have and organize resources following a structure/project , many other ingredients including sponsors, and most of all sustainability. In the past there were no opportunities to pay someone or find sponsors (but I was not yet the Treasurer !! ) What a great service to Aoir members , scholars, and students to have our journal would be ! I am definitively available to re-open this initiative and collaborate with Jeremy , Caroline and all who will express a serious interest or can volunteer time and resources for an aoir-journal. Not sure, but let'see if *our community* is ready to make the dream come true this time!!? I'm pretty sure that a Journal should not be tightly bound into AoIR until we find a way how to do that, right now, there is no way to really to do that. I want to be clear that all I want to do right now is to find out if there is enough interest and people to make it work, or to pursue further.
