Has anyone else noticed a sudden increase in the amount of porn-type spam they are getting? At least six people, including one journalist, have been asking me what's up. I've heard from both academics and folks in the private sector, and all seem to indicate a sudden (past 5-7 days) rise in this stuff. I personally have noticed it as well. Anyone know what's going on? ---------------- Laura J. i have noticed this and i've also been tracking where i've been getting the spam from (since i put out a million different addresses depending on the appropriate context). some of it comes from basic sold lists (including Shockwave's). but most of it appears to be coming from intelligent website crawlers. thus, if you email address is on a website (even for example, an archived mailing list), it's likely to be spammed. i also noticed that Yahoo! has tightened the ability to see a sender in their groups' archives so that crawlers can no longer get addresses from publicly available archives. now, of course, this is all in my experience and may not be the case for everyone out there... danah On Fri, 4 Jan 2002, Laura Gurak wrote:
