University of Sussex School of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies We are seeking to appoint several positions to support our continuing expansion in Media & Cultural Studies, and Media Practice. These appointments are part of an exciting University restructure, and are intended to consolidate the future academic direction of the Department and School. Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Media Practice (2 posts) Ref: 226 £26,270 - £33,679 or £35,251 - £39,958 (pro-rata for 0.5 post) (one full time and one 0.5 permanent) The successful candidate will have a strong record of critical practice and experience of practice teaching in Higher Education. Preference will be given to candidates offering at least one of the following specialisms: photography/digital imaging, fiction production, sound/radio, documentary (still or moving image), interactive media. Lecturer B/Senior Lecturer in Media & Cultural Studies Ref: 227 £26,270 - £33,679 or £35,251 - £39,958 (full time permanent) The candidate would be expected to make a significant contribution to our emerging new curriculum, and to deliver research effectively. For the senior position, an international level of research performance would be expected, together with evidence of academic leadership in learning, teaching, or quality assurance. Specialisms may include: popular culture, print media/journalism, cultural approaches to new media, cultural industries. The academic specialism of the post is open, however the candidate?s work would be expected to be compatible with the Cultural Studies re-orientation of the Departmental Research Strategy. Lecturer A in Gender and Media Studies Ref: 228 £22,191 - £25,451 (one year fixed term) This appointment is open to candidates holding a PhD in a relevant area, with previous experience of teaching in Higher Education at both undergraduate (essential) and postgraduate (desirable) levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in both of our new Interdisciplinary Programmes in Gender Studies, and Cultural Studies, as well as deliver core curriculum in Media Studies. An ability to contribute to the MA in Gender and Media Studies and MA in Gender Studies is desirable.
