Hi All, Thanks, Christian, for pointing to the RiseUp option. It’s SHOCKING (not shocking at all) that this option is not very findable if you don’t already know about it. For the past two months, I have been looking around the internet for options for building an old school, open source, and free mailing list, and I had forgotten RiseUp. Sadly, it NEVER popped up, no matter how deeply I was digging, with various search terms, across various platforms. Never. That is perhaps partly about my own inability to search, but a good demonstration of the invisible strength of algorithmic silos. It reminds me that our beloved AoIR mailing list once existed as an active place to share resources, before we started relying on other sources of community building and information sharing. And when I consider how impoverished my own information environment is, and how cluttered my feeds are with ads, slop, junk, and alluring things intended to distract me, I’m grateful for the occasional post to this list that is truly helpful. And inspired to share more, here. Thanks for the reminder about riseup.net, Christian! Annette Annette N. Hello Zach
Fantastic initiative!
I've got the error message too, after filling out the google form and
sending an email to [5]criticalcommonsresearch+subscribe@googlegroups.com.
Looking forward to the "Birds of a Feather" meetup at AoIR 2025 next Friday.

Hello AoIR,
It is my pleasure to announce a new project, the *Critical Commons
Research
Network* (CCRN). This project is funded by a Wikimedia Foundation
Research
grant to help us gather researchers who examine the digital commons
and its
connections from infrastructural, political-economic, policy, and
other
critical approaches.
This network aims to examine the role, importance, and impact of
different
aspects and areas of the digital commons and to foster relationships
and
mentorships for researchers in this area. I know many of y'all on
this
list
align with this type of research, and it is our hope that this can
help
connect us together in ways that can elevate each other's work.
We are establishing an annotated digital library, a mentorship
program,
collaborative online (and offline) spaces, symposia and workshops,
and
an upcoming
CFP for an edited collection
