My daughter is in the first grade, and so her writing often has errors. She has been taught by her English teacher that when she makes a mistake she places an X next to the word and tries to write again. That way, her pages aren't filled with scribbles and scratching. I remember being taught the same method when I was six and seven. Could that be an origin? paul teusner -----Original Message----- From: air-l-bounces@listserv.aoir.org [mailto:air-l-bounces@listserv.aoir.org] On Behalf Of Kris Markman Sent: Monday, 24 July 2006 02:01 To: air-l@listserv.aoir.org Subject: [Air-l] typos in chat Does anybody know (or have any guesses about) the origin of using an asterisk to denote the correction of a typo in chat (and possibly other forms of CMC)?
