It offers a part-time PhD studentship and a 50% FTE teaching assistantship. The position is a clearly defined training/career development position and will provide the opportunity for study towards a PhD on a part-time basis coupled with part-time teaching experience in the Institute of Communications Studies. Teaching responsibilities will be allocated in the light of current workloads of existing academic staff, and of the experience and aptitude of the successful applicant Potential PhD topics should be within the area of journalism studies. You must possess a Master's degree in journalism, broadcast journalism, online journalism, or a related discipline such as media studies, communication studies or sociology. The ability to take responsibility for allocated teaching duties and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also essential to the post. The post is available from 20 September 2010 (or as soon as possible thereafter) for a fixed term until 19 September 2012. At the end of the fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance, you may be reappointed for 2-4 years (depending upon how long it takes to complete the PhD) but the training post will not be extended beyond 19 September 2016. University Grade 6 (£24,273 - £28,983 p.a. prorata) plus annual stipend of £6,300; PhD fees will be paid by the Institute.
