Dear AoIR colleagues, With the usual apologies for cross-posting... As many know, last week the European Commission released its draft Delegated Act on researcher data access under DSA Article 40 and opened a public consultation period until November 26th. This is an important opportunity for members of the research community to share their thoughts and insights with the Commission. But that may be easier said than done for many of us. The Delegated Act is complex. And the consultation window is short–and comes at a VERY busy time of year. To help ease the pressure and offer an opportunity to share thoughts across the research community, I'm teaming up with the Coalition for Independent Technology Research to offer three 90-minute information sessions on the Delegated Act next week (one on Monday, November 11th and two at different times on Wednesday, November 13th; see the end of the message for full details). Each session will focus on the same key themes (i.e., there’s no need to attend more than one session): 1. What’s actually in the Delegated Act? What isn’t included and why? 2. What type of feedback is the Commission looking for? What type of feedback probably wouldn’t be very helpful (e.g., because the Delegated Act can’t address certain things)? 3. What insights or points might members of the research community be in a good position to help emphasize? Like DSA Article 40 itself, these information sessions are open to researchers from non-profit research institutions (e.g., universities, civil society organizations) anywhere in the world who might consider requesting data to study the systemic risks to Europe and Europeans posed by Very Large Online Platforms and/or Very Large Online Search Engines. Below you’ll find “Add to your calendar” links, as well as full Zoom information, for each of the sessions.
