Ryerson University’s Faculty of Communication & Design invites applications and nominations for a position in the New Media Option of the School of Image Arts. This appointment is for a tenure-stream faculty position in New Media Production, commencing July 1, 2005. The School of Image Arts is a dynamic centre for creative learning, offering three distinct degree options—film, photography and new media. The program features a balance of theory and practice, fine art and commercial production. There are over 700 full-time B.F.A. students, approximately 40 full- and part-time faculty and 14 staff members. The school offers a new M.A. program in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management and contributes to the M .A. and Ph.D. program in Communication and Culture. The School is seeking an experienced educator with demonstrated teaching ability and a record of excellence in a range of scholarly, creative and/or critical activities. The position requires a strong exhibition record and professional involvement in interactive art, an extensive knowledge of hardware and software used within the areas of digital graphics and multimedia authoring with an expert knowledge of programming for interactive and sensor-based digital art production (max/VNS and/or PD and JAVA and/or C++). The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of classes, including foundation and advanced high tech computer-related digital subject matter and interactive media production. A relevant graduate degree is required; an MFA or Ph.D. is preferred.
