Thanks Annette - But I wasnt scorning the use of blogs in teaching nor was I suggesting that there is nothing new or interesting about their use - I was asking why they would be considered progressive. :) r
well, using blogs for class assignments is not new for many of us, that's true. But if you'd never heard of doing this, it would seem progressive, eh?
Most of my students here in the Virgin Islands don't even know what blogging is. Most forms of CMC are completely new to them. Last week, I held class in the virtual classroom of Blackboard, the most vanilla of chatrooms, and they thought it was amazing, progressive, and very strange.
So Chris, if you're interested, you should take up the subject here, 'cause many of the people on this list have been using blogs for years...like Radhika :)

ps - no offense meant.
Can you email me direct at chris.heidelberg@ssa.gov? I am a graduate student studying edutainment and convergence and I would like to get your thoughts. Where do you teach? This sounds so progressive.

I use blogs as an online journal requirement for my graduate students. They love it, become introduced to the technology tool and, as a teacher, I am updated weekly related to team procedures, content interests and blogging experiences. The individuality and interactive communication that can take place using this tool in relation to coursework have been valuable.
