It was not only you Ken, there were others for instance why your method is against the law, if you were to post a washington post article, you would be breaking their copyright because they state: YOU MAY NOT COPY, REPRODUCE, DISTRIBUTE, PUBLISH, DISPLAY, PERFORM, MODIFY, CREATE DERIVATIVE WORKS, TRANSMIT, OR IN ANY WAY EXPLOIT ANY PART OF THIS SERVICE, EXCEPT THAT YOU MAY DOWNLOAD MATERIAL FROM THIS SERVICE FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL, NONCOMMERCIAL USE AS FOLLOWS: YOU MAY MAKE ONE MACHINE READABLE COPY AND/OR ONE PRINT COPY THAT IS LIMITED TO OCCASIONAL ARTICLES OF PERSONAL INTEREST ONLY. and the NYT has this: All rights reserved. All materials contained on this site are protected by United States copyright law and may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, displayed, published or broadcast without the prior written permission of The New York Times Company. You may not alter or remove any trademark, copyright or other notice from copies of the content. So it is my interpretation, that one is not allowed to distribute via e-mail lists from these sources. However, one can distribute within fair use guidelines, which is distributing the first paragraph a link to the rest. It should be noted that the server that this list sits on, and probably the one it used to sit on are governed by the respective universities use guidelines which have this stipulation or something similar: For use(of computers and networks) to be acceptable, it must demonstrate respect of: the rights of others to privacy; intellectual property rights (e.g., as reflected in licenses and copyrights); ownership of data; system mechanisms designed to limit access; and individuals' rights to be free of intimidation, harassment, and unwarranted annoyance. so more or less we should think about staying within those guidelines whenever possible:) I appreciate your understanding on this issue.
