Please forward to interested colleagues and students! Dear Dianna, The Midwest Sociological Society (MSS) portal is open! It is time to submit your paper abstracts for the 2013 MSS Annual Meetings to be held March 27-30, 2013, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. Deadline for Submission of Abstracts: Wednesday, October 24, 2012 Our updated online submission system is easy to use. Follow these steps: [These directions are repeated at the web site.] Step 1: Go to the 2013 Annual Meeting Theme Page<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001ivtbh944cS3XumoZsRny9oS5y--lhpkGgHzU9aNVmBDcuykRoBadqpmzu26qx2G5SahcSoFsKjhArp2hxTni4UbSbURrqRbMqk7DWTEjo5gJoNZmnPZLeV9Zc4O5B0RBWSWllCRYT-4=> . - Read the program theme: "Integrating the Sociology Eclectic: Research, Teaching and Activism." - Open and browse through the "2013 MSS Call for Papers Session List" listing 208 engaging session proposals under 27 topic areas. The descriptions share the organizers' visions for their sessions. Choose the right sessions for your papers. - Read the four-page report from the MSS Task Force on Scholarly Quality. Step 2: Write a 300-400 word abstract of your paper in your own word-processing program. [Do NOT compose your abstract inside the portal.] For formal paper sessions, report the status of data collection and analysis. Research proposals and literature reviews may be more appropriate for roundtables. Essays may work best for panels. Edit carefully. The abstract reflects your scholarship and determines the paper's acceptance in the session. Remember, all abstracts will be published on the MSS website as written! Step 3: With a completed abstract in hand, go to the paper-submission portal page<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001ivtbh944cS0mp_vVYs1o9z-QpcQcU4u5aWRkK-Zwj-D3T7IM5wwMfXqCwK6epvZaeF3ArrO-65Zna6zg_76CrB5kku7h0s4JuCR8v_VRyx0dmswqijNNbQOAUPTuhB7qdAGAR5-cnno=>. Answer the Yes-No screening questions confirming membership. Click on the topic area and the session you have chosen. Step 4: Enter the title of your paper. Identify yourself as the submitter. Starting with the first author, enter all the paper authors (including yourself). Complete all required information. Copy and paste your abstract into the box provided. Indicate your audio-visual requests. Be sure to go all the way to the last screen, where you will proofread your entries and correct possible errors. When satisfied that it is all correct, click the large green checkmark to SUBMIT. Step 5: Print the submission confirmation screen for your records. You will also receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email within three hours, it is your responsibility to follow up with the program team and find out what happened. Email them HERE. <mss2013@mnsu.edu> Remember - the session list is a work in progress. We will expand and/or combine sessions depending on the papers received. We will work to find a home for your paper. Check the MSS website and *The Midwest Sociologist* (TMS) for updates about the plans for our 2013 Conference including a special performance of *Marx in Soho*, the play written by Howard Zinn. Session Organizers: You will receive an email with instructions for accessing your session and its paper submissions by mid-October. We look forwarding to receiving your papers and seeing you in Chicago!
