Students understand the changing world of today's mass media as well as the long history of the relationship among communication, self, and society; and they are prepared for a broad array of career paths. A distinguished faculty and fully equipped studios and labs service instruction in Journalism, Media Production, Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Tutoring, The Pioneer Newspaper, a debate club and the *Public Relations Student Society of America. *All this provides students with the opportunities and skills to make positive, professional, and important contributions in the communication field. The Department of Communication enjoys a highly diverse student-body with nearly 500 undergraduate and approximately 50 graduate majors. The Department currently offers two undergraduate options: Media Production (including journalism and video production) and Public, Professional and Organizational Communication (including public relations and advertising). *DUTIES OF THE POSITION:* The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: multimedia journalism, communication and media, and strategic communication. Other teaching as assigned by the Department Chair. The successful candidate will be expected to keep pace with fast-moving and developing digital communication technology and trends so as ensure a curriculum that is always fresh and versatile. In addition to teaching, all faculty are expected to sustain a record of scholarly work, advise majors, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and assume campus-wide committee responsibilities. *Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and online campuses.* *RANK AND SALARY: * Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization. *DATE OF APPOINTMENT: **Fall Quarter, 2017* *Qualifications* *QUALIFICATIONS:* Candidate must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Communication or a related field at the time of appointment. ABD candidates will be considered but must have the required earned doctorate at the time of appointment. Candidates must have expertise in the areas of multimedia, digital scholarship and practice, and/or strategic communication as evidenced by their scholarly and/or creative work, especially in the form of a "producer-scholar." Experience as a multimedia producer, programmer, designer, app or web developer is preferred. Ability to articulate the scholarly history and impact of social media in the classroom is preferred. Candidates with a research agenda focusing on one or more aspects of communication and digital life including (but not limited to) organizational communication, strategic communication, or digital methods are preferred.
