I tried to use Instaloder after quite a few suggestions from this listserv but ran into problems, which does not seem to have been the case before 2020. Is there anyone who has used or is using Instaloder or Insta scraper to collect data as of recently (2020~)? I am not sure if anyone else is running to similar problems. Thank you. Hi, all,
I would just like to say that I have found Documenting the Now <https://www.docnow.io>'s work and white papers on archival ethics to be very helpful over the years in my own research. Though an election is not the same as a social movement, it may be worth consulting Doc Now's "Ethical Considerations for Archiving Social Media Content Generated by Contemporary: <https://www.docnow.io/docs/docnow-whitepaper-2018.pdf
Social Movements: Challenges, Opportunities, and Recommendations <https://www.docnow.io/docs/docnow-whitepaper-2018.pdf>."
On the matter of how to actually capture Insta stuff, you (and/or your student) may want to play around with Webrecorder. This project < https://artsandculture.google.com/exhibit/excellences-perfections-preserving...
which relied in part on Webrecorder (from a little bit ago) may still be of interest. Webrecorder has recently undergone a name change and is now called Conifer, but this link <https://conifer.rhizome.org/despens/amalia-ulman-excellences--perfections speaks to some of the ups and downs of using it. Full disclosure, I've primarily used Webrecorder/Conifer for Twitter archival work, but if you're working on a desktop, you may find it useful esp if you're trying to get some video content.
Best, Muira

In addition to this discussion, does anyone have any ethical guidance/thoughts to share about gathering Instagram post? More specifically data Collection from open accounts applying a specific hashtag.
Sorry for high jacking, but I suspect considering ethical matters might be needed for your student too...

I have always used https://instaloader.github.io/index.html and it works perfectly.

Hello all,
can you recommend a data collection tool that is more dynamic than rss.app? One of my graduate students wants to capture images, videos, and discussions on two separate accounts during the fall election season.
I would very much appreciate any advice you can give, DeNel
