Hej Christer, I'm working on a production study of search engines (also large-scale web sites), and I have presented on this topic at the AOIR conference, the IAMCR conference, and the ICA conference. The working groups and sections at the major conferences have groups that are receptive to this kind of research - for example the communication & technology policy section of the IAMCR. I don't think you need to feel particularly restricted. Elizabeth On 29 Mar 2006, at 16:25, Christer Clerwall wrote:
Hi
Naomi, thanks for answering. I’ll try to give you all a little bit more information.
The reason I'm not being very specific is that I don't want to limit the possible number of answers, but maybe I'm using the wrong strategy.
I'm in the field of media and communications studies and my dissertation is on production of large-scale web sites. My focus stems from "the production of culture perspective" which focus on structural aspects of the production of symbol products (music, arts, literature, science etc.). I use this perspective to investigate how the form and content of Swedish university web sites (that's one part of my empirical work) has changed from 1996 to 2005 (maybe 2006 will be included) due to structural constraints such as technology and technological progress, market structure, industrial structure and the structure of the production organization.
I have come in contact with research on the production of news (both old studies such as Tuchman and new Swedish studies) and other types of research on how media is being produced and how the "product" is formed by the milieu in which it is being produced.
I hope this gives you a little more to go on and that you can help me find interesting and relevant conferences where this kind of topic can be presented.

Hi,
one possibility could be the conferences organised by Design Research Society. they occur every two years in various parts of the world, but their focus is very broad and just might cover your area. this year the conference takes place in portugal and is entitled Wonderground. the site is http://www.iade.pt/drs2006/
otherwise without knowing more specific information on what aspects of web production are you actually covering it is hard to suggest specific conferences that might be of use to you.
my own specialty is online design of women's web sites, but as part of my PHD research i talk a lot about web production. if you could be more specific i might have some more suggestions.
regards
noemi

Hi
I'm looking for conferences where I can present research on web production in general and the impact of the production milieu on form and content in particular.
There is one conference relating to media and communication studies where I have presented a paper (the bi-annual Nordic Conference on Media and Communication Research) but that's about it.
I anyone could suggest conferences where research on different aspects of media production is usually presented I would be happy to compile a list and distribute it on this list.
I have tried searching the web for relevant conferences, using a number of keywords but I'm not satisfied with the result.
Hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks Christer
