As the world’s largest internet market and digital economy, China has a vibrant and diversified social media market. From Taobao, Weibo, Weixin/WeChat, to Douyin/TikTok, Kuaishou, Bilibili, and Xiaohonghu, Chinese digital platforms have been central to people’s social, cultural, and economic lives. These made-in-China platforms are transnational digital networks beyond the Sinophone sphere. By focusing on platform entrepreneurial labor, a special issue published in *Global Media and China* <https://journals.sagepub.com/home/GCH> which highlighted the importance of human agency and creativity, as individuals and communities navigate changes and disruptions in their everyday life brought about by digital platforms and the platformization of cultural, economic, and knowledge production.
