As part of its further scientific development, Ghent University plans to recruit: - A full-time position as assistant professor (tenure track) - Domain of Business Communication - Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication - Faculty of Arts and Philosophy *ASSIGNMENT* The Department of Translation, Interpretation and Communication of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at Ghent University organizes the Bachelor of Arts in Applied Language Studies, three one-year masters (Translation, Interpreting, Multilingual Communication) and a two-year educational master. We are looking for an assistant professor who can join the team within the department from 1 February 2020 for an assignment that includes academic education, scientific research and academic services in the field of Business Communication. *Academic education* You actively contribute to the course content in the Master in multilingual communication. You supervise bachelor's theses in the Bachelor’s programme in Applied Language Studies and master's theses in the Master of multilingual communication that are in line with your field of expertise. You will be involved in the language and communication courses of the Bachelor’s programme in Applied Language Studies and/or the Masters in Translation, Interpreting or Multilingual Communication, depending on your language skills in a foreign language. *Academic Research* You develop research in the field of business communication. You study how increasing digitization influences communication between companies and their (potential) customers and other stakeholders and you delve into the possibilities that digital media offer for optimizing internal and / or external communication processes and / or the branding of a product or organization. You conduct research in close collaboration with the professional field, attract innovative projects involving students and write research projects from an interdisciplinary perspective, where you build a bridge between various sub-disciplines that study the broad research domain of business communication (eg Linguistics, Communication Sciences, Organizational Studies, Business Administration, ...). *Academic services* You will be invited to take part in the internal and external service provision of the department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication. *PROFILE* *Knowledge/Experience* - You have carried out highquality scientific research in one of the sub-areas of business communication (eg corporate communication, marketing communication, internal communication, external communication, etc.) as appears from publications in high-quality scientific journals and peer-reviewed books and you have demonstrable expertise in education about and / or research into the use of new means of communication on the course and outcome of communication processes; - You are prepared to work interdisciplinary and to bridge the gap between different disciplines that study the broad field of Business Communication (eg Linguistics, Communication Sciences, Organizational Studies, Business Administration, etc.); - You are able to initiate and guide scientific research and to collect the necessary funds for this; - You have experience in quantitative and / or qualitative research methods and you are prepared to work with a mixed method; - You can present demonstrable experience with academic education in the field of Business Communication; - You are a native speaker of Dutch or you are prepared to reach level B2 within three years of recruitment. If positively evaluated by the University Board, the term of office will be transferred into a permanent appointment as an associate professor.
