There is an awful lot of generalizing about "the IRB" in this discussion as if IRBs are monolithic, consistent entities that all have the same levels of knowledge, experience, and practices across all of our institutions. While all of the discussion and suggestions have been wonderful, at the end of the day you will have to satisfy (or avoid) the demands of your particular IRB. While it's wonderful to prepare in advance it might be better to simply ask the members of your IRB about the specifics of your study before worrying too much about things that may or may not come up.
