CfP: Rivista di Digital Politics (https://www.digitalpolitics.it/), Special Issue “Digital Twins” Contact Information: redazione@digitalpolitics.it. Digital Twins One of the most advanced frontiers in Digital Innovation, “Digital twins” affect models and systems for managing, and interacting with, the social and political reality around us. This emerging technology is not limited to representing material entities, whether built or natural, but also extends to processes, organizations, and even people, dynamically reproducing all the characteristics of the represented entity by constantly updating data in real time. The rapid spread of Digital Twins on a global scale stimulates the investigation of new opportunities for the public sector, for innovation, and socio-political design. Indeed, new frontiers in development and research are opening up in a variety of areas, from governance to public administration and from active citizenship to data architecture, necessitating opportunities for systematic insights into the changes that are under way. This issue of the Rivista di Digital Politics/Journal of Digital Politics explores the topic of Digital Twins, proposing to extend the concept beyond its traditional use in industry and engineering, and bring it back to the center of the political and social science research agenda. Indeed, the advent of this technology introduces new ways of conceiving, organizing, and deciding on the horizons of contemporary society and politics, enriching the debate on the changing profiles of digital politics. The new issue of the Journal aims to explore, among others, the following aspects: -History, perspectives, and theoretical approaches to the concept of Digital Twins -Digital Twins in international, national, and private governance strategies -Reframing the role, organizational methods, and purposes of public administration -Improving public services through Digital Twins. Applications and case studies -Digital Twins in policy monitoring, evaluation, and simulation processes -Digital Twins, participation, and citizenship -Digital Twins and related concepts (e.g., metaverse, digital double, avatar, transposition, phygital) -Data architecture and data governance in different policy regimes -Cybersecurity and Digital Twins -Legal and Ethical Challenges This monographic issue welcomes article proposals that explore the topic of Digital Twins from different perspectives, with no particular preference for specific methods of analysis. In particular, establishing a synergy between scholars from different disciplines becomes imperative in order to develop a dialogue that can fully grasp the potential offered. Articles may focus on a particular application of this technology, or discuss the concept of Digital Twins more broadly, intercepting emerging trends and future areas of development and research even from a comparative perspective.
