"Kylie Veale" <kylie@veale.com.au> How about a YahooGroup out of France called [Heraldique-Noblesse] with 549 members? http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/Heraldique-Noblesse/ "... Cette liste est dédiée à la recherche sur la noblesse et la bourgeoisie, la recherche et les identifications d' armoiries, la compréhension du langage héraldique, ainsi que la réalisation de dessin de blasons. This list is dedicated to research on the nobility and the middle-class, the search and the identifications for armorial bearings, the comprehension of the heraldic language, as well as the realization of drawing of "coats of arms"...." Not quite ‘genealogy’.. yet closely related.... Seems to me that it is indeed a different hobby and should be considered in your study. On Thursday, March 11, 2004, at 12:25 AM, Kylie Veale wrote:
Good morning list,
I have just commenced a PhD with Curtin University in Australia, researching the changing face of the hobby ‘genealogy’. I am interested in how the advent of the Internet has changed the social phenomenon of genealogy, using a three-part conceptual framework: communicating, transacting, and publishing.
Has anyone come across any empirical studies / papers / books regarding the pursuit of any hobbyist genre online? I am specifically interested in hobbies that were once ‘offline’ and now pursued online (or a combination of both), rather than those that only exist virtually. To date I have found very few, other than those researching amateur photographers and Internet usage.
Thanks Kylie
