Nancy, I looked for those numbers some time ago, and didn't come up with much. Some pages have some hints (http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~hgs/ internet/population.html) but are not complete. There wasn't a lot of solid data collected then, and there wasn't a reliable way for the survey houses to capture movement from 1% to 3% to 5.5% etc. About the best we can do is combine our best guesses from the 1980s and early 1990s, make some assumptions about the rate of diffusion, and estimate between the estimated points. Good luck! //steve. On Sep 6, 2006, at 4:16 PM, Elizabeth Van Couvering wrote:
Hi Nancy,
I just checked the Euromonitor figures, they go back only to 2000. I think I might try looking in trade magazines for the time - something like The Industry Standard or Interactive Age is bound to reprint that kind of information. I also checked ClickZ - they have a lot of information but I didn't specifically see historical information. Good luck.

Has anyone got a good source of estimates of internet penetration in the United States over time? I am fanmiliar with Hobbes Internet Timelines' charts of total hosts, but that is not specifically American, and with Pew's charts, but those have enormous gaps prior to 2000. What I am hoping for is a simple summary of what percentage of Americans used the internet in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, etc. _______________________________________________ The air-l@listserv.aoir.org mailing list is provided by the Association of Internet Researchers http:// aoir.org Subscribe, change options or unsubscribe at: http:// listserv.aoir.org/listinfo.cgi/air-l-aoir.org
