The discussion concerning deontology in the excellent post by Charles Ess struck a note in my mind. If I am correct, the human experiments in Nazi Germany resulted in a medical book. Wasn't there some movement to quash the book or the knowledge gained in those experiments? (I would appreciate references where I could become more informed on that matter). If there was an effort to quash that knowledge, would this not be a strong indicator that researchers disregarding ethical standards would be risking both their professional reputations and the dismissal of their contributions by the scholarly community?
