Cheers, Annette Markham amarkha@uvi.edu POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT University of the Virgin Islands Chief Information Officer Vacancy The University of the Virgin Islands is seeking a professional to fill the position of Chief Information Officer. We are seeking a technical leader with the vision to apply state-of- the-art Information Technology to serve the University community and the Virgin Islands, and the management skills to lead a team of library and technical professionals in making that vision a reality. The University is the only institution of higher learning in the Virgin Islands and is an HBCU, Land Grant university, and independent agency of the Government of the Virgin Islands. The Chief Information Officer reports directly to the President and is accountable for providing the managerial and technological leadership for the University's Information Technology Services and Learning Resource Centers. Major areas of responsibility include strategic planning, policy development, integrated implementation and management of infrastructure, systems and human and fiscal resources, staff leadership and development, project management leadership, and user support systems. The CIO identifies and communicates the technology implications for strategic goals and anticipates changes and emerging trends in information technology, library science and communications as they apply to the mission and goals of the University. The CIO serves on the Executive Cabinet as well as the Strategic Planning Steering Committee and other committees, as appropriate. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following: • A master's degree is required in library and information sciences (preferably both). • A vision of the future of technology in higher education with the ability to contribute to the University's information technology strategic initiatives, insight and leadership to develop the infrastructure to support a state-of-the-art environment to support teaching and learning and research. • Demonstrated superior management skills and a commitment to staff development; proven leadership and collaboration skills to inspire teamwork and dedication among a group of faculty, librarians, professionals, technicians and support personnel. • Solid experience in positions of increasing responsibility representing at least ten years of management experience, including IT and Learning Resource Center management, in an institution of higher education and with significant experience at the executive level. • Solid working knowledge of computer networks, Internet, telecommunication and academic and administrative systems in a complex enterprise-wide environment. • Keen interest in and understanding of the application of technology to teaching and learning • Significant skill and experience in the effective use of scarce resources and demonstrated abilities in change management.
