The University of Edinburgh postgraduate programme in Science and Technology Studies has been awarded six ESRC quota awards for students studying towards the PhD. We are now looking for outstanding candidates to apply for these awards. I would be very grateful if you could bring this to the attention of any potential applicants.
UK students are eligible for fees plus maintenance awards. EU students are eligible for funding on a fees-only basis, unless they have been living in the UK for three years or more, in which case they are eligible for maintenance payments also.
ESRC quota awards are available on a 1+3 basis, incorporating the MSc by Research in STS plus the PhD. Alternatively, if candidates have already completed an ESRC-approved programme of research training in STS, they awards may be made on a +3 basis.
Applicants should submit the normal University application form for an MSc by Research or PhD in STS, together with a covering letter stating that they wish to be considered for ESRC funding. Details of the postgraduate programme in STS are available athttp:// www.sps.ed.ac.uk/gradschool/>http://www.sps.ed.ac.uk/gradschool/, as are downloadable copies of application forms.
The deadline for applications is Friday 31 March 2006. However, applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply for University of Edinburgh College Awards, the deadline for which is 24 February 2006. Application forms for College Awards are available at http://www.hss.ed.ac.uk/Postgraduate/index.htm>http:// www.hss.ed.ac.uk/Postgraduate/index.htm
