Adding value for society members - develop your publishing programme
Chair: Mike Rodd, British Computer Society
Friday 7 July 2006 (0900 - 1245)
www.alpsp.org/events/2006/AVS/default.htm
This seminar will discuss the broader benefits that a society’s publishing activities can offer its membership. Traditionally these include direct benefits such as offering publications and information at reduced prices and using publishing revenue to support the wider aims of the society through activities such as education and research.
During a time of unprecedented change in the publishing environment, developing the range of publishing services and benefits offered to members can benefit a society not only in terms of revenue earned but also by encouraging membership and improving the standing of the speciality. The speakers will discuss the direct benefits which can be offered but also explore the wider possibilities of providing new ways of communicating with a society’s members, such as enhanced web sites, membership portals and discussion forums. They will also look at wider issues such as the value of forming strategic alliances and cooperative ventures.
Who should attend? Publishing Managers, Information Officers, Membership Secretaries and Executive Secretaries from both small and large learned societies who need to plan strategically for the longer term. The discussions will also be of interest to organisations and publishers who work with societies.
