The Department of Social Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Professorship in the Social Psychology of Information and Communication Technologies for the period of five years. In addition to conducting research, the duties of the professorship will include supervising doctoral dissertations and Master’s theses, examining theses and providing postgraduate and Master’s-level instruction in the social psychology of information and communication technologies. The duties will include the teaching and development of research methods for mediated interaction. The appointee will also participate in the activities of the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT) as a senior researcher. When making the appointment, the primary criteria are the applicant’s qualifications in scientific research and in academic research-based teaching. The appointee’s research profile should reinforce one or several key areas of research already represented at the Department of Social Psychology (http://www.valt.helsinki.fi/sospsyk/english/tutkimus.htm). The research programmes Network Society and Algorithmic Data Analysis play a central role in the research activities of HIIT (http://www.hiit.fi). The Decree on the Qualification Requirements and Duties of Staff in Institutions of Higher Education (309/1993) provides for the qualification requirements and the Finnish and Swedish language requirement for professorships. The salary for the present post will be based on levels 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The new Universities Act will enter into force on 1 January 2010. Consequently, permanent and fixed-term public service employment relationships at universities will be abolished on 31 December 2009 and all personnel will be employed on a contractual basis as of 1 January 2010.
