TL ---- NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY, Department of Communication (www.ncsu.edu/chass/communication) seeks two tenure-track faculty members at the Assistant Professor level starting August 16, 2005 in the area of Communication, Technology and Culture (CTC) and in the area of Computer Mediated Interpersonal Communication (CMIC). The CTC position will specialize in any of the following: cultural, political and social aspects of information technology; the changing nature of media institutions and evolving global communication networks; community and identity creation in virtual environments; global issues (e.g., the environment, international human rights, or transnational women's organizations); political processes and the Internet; or electronic networking and multi-user gaming. The successful candidate will help students to understand and to use a broad range of technologies for communicating with individuals, groups, and mass audiences in the digital environment. The CMIC position will have particular research and teaching interests in the development and maintenance of interpersonal relationships and/or group communication dynamics in on-line and other computer mediated environments. The successful candidate should be able to teach in at least two of the following three areas: advanced interpersonal communication, group communication, and communication and technology. A Ph.D. in communication or a related field and potential for research are required, but a scholar who is also a practitioner is highly desirable. Duties will include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, maintaining an active research agenda including grant procurement and work with graduate students in the proposed interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media.
