Broadening the band even farther, there are also the CSCL'ers, those focusing on computer-supported collaborative learning. See http://www.edb.utexas.edu/csclstudent/Dhsiao/theories.html . But, these days the term seems to be increasingly replaced by e-learning, although the latter need not necessarily be collaborative.......Alex ========================================= Alex Kuskis PhD Candidate OISE/University of Toronto Assoc. Re distributed work, Pamela Hinds and Sara Kiesler have just published a dynamite edited book, Distributed Work.
As Ben Anderson, there is a huge literature on CSCW (computer supported cooperative work).
The CSCWers and the AoIRs seem mutually unaware of each other: the CSCW folks hang around with computer scientists more and both develop applications and study uses. (Go to their conference mid November and see for yourself -- check www.acm.org).
One of the reasons I got involved in the next AoIR conference is to try to get these worthy sets of scholars engaged with each other.
