Greetings! The 2022 Steve Jones Internet Research Lecture, to be presented in the Hybrid 72nd Annual Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA), May 26-30, in Paris, France, features a conversation with Dr. Crystal Abidin. Dr. Abidin is an anthropologist and ethnographer of Internet culture, focusing her research on influencer cultures, Internet celebrity, online visibility and social media pop culture in the Asia Pacific region. The conversation with Dr. Abidin covers a wide range of topics including Dr. Abidin’s career trajectory, past research, and new projects under way. Dr. Abidin also offers some career advice to junior scholars embarking on a career studying new media. The lecture is a pre-recorded conversation, available online to ICA conference attendees. Steve Jones Internet Research Lecture Series, established by Carl Couch Center for Social and Internet Research (CCCSIR, www.cccsir.com) in 2003, brings leading Internet researchers to annual ICA conferences to promote the development and interest of Internet research. With the interdisciplinary nature of Internet research, the lecture series brings researchers from various disciplines as well as industry leaders to establish dialogues with communication researchers about topics and issues of Internet research.
