He is a leading academic in Black Cyberculture and the study of racial representations in social media, including groundbreaking research on Black Twitter. Other research interests include racial representations in videogames, black women and weblogs, whiteness, and technoculture. His award winning book, *Distributed Blackness: African American Cybercultures* was published by NYU Press in 2020 and offers insights into understanding Black everyday lives mediated by networked technologies.
