A strong emphasis of GROUP conferences is to foster a discourse on collaborative technology that bridges the fields of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) Information Systems (IS), and Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) among others. Relevant issues include the design, implementation, deployment, and evaluation of the impact of these systems as well as examinations of relevant research methodologies. Demos are expected to present design and implementations of new CSCW systems and concepts. The peer-reviewed demonstrations allow conference participants to view novel and noteworthy CSCW systems in action, try them out, and discuss the systems with those who created them. SUBMISSION: Poster and demo submissions should include an extended abstract that is no longer than 4 pages, including all figures and references, in the ACM Standard Format (available at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates). In addition, submissions may include a separate Tabloid sized (11 x 17 inches) draft of the poster for review purposes. Please note that the poster draft is optional and not required for review purposes. The submission is NOT anonymous and both the extended abstract and the poster draft should include the author(s)’ names. Posters and demos will be displayed during a special session at the conference. Poster and demo authors are expected to be available to discuss their work. In addition, the audience will vote on the top three posters and/or demos. Accepted poster and demo submissions will be published in the ACM Digital Library. DEADLINE: August 1, 2016 POSTERS/DEMOS CO-CHAIRS: Adriana Vivacqua, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Alexander Boden, Fraunhofer FIT, Germany Nassim JafariNaimi, Georgia Tech, USA *********************************************** DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM AT GROUP *********************************************** The Group’16 Doctoral Research Consortium (DC) provides a forum for late-stage doctoral students to advance their dissertation projects and career planning through guided interaction peers and distinguished faculty mentors. The program will begin with a full-day dissertation-focused session on Sunday, November 13th, culminating in a career-focused dinner with the mentor team. On Monday, all DC participants will participate in the poster and demo session to engage the entire Group’16 conference with their projects. The program will conclude with a closing meal on WedWe encourage applicants from a broad range of disciplines and approaches that inform Group, including HCI, CSCW, anthropology, sociology, information science, computer science, information systems, cognitive science, organizational studies, design and related fields. We are particularly interested in applications from institutions and programs that have not traditionally been well-represented at past Group conferences. We also encourage applications from non-US institutions. Applicants should be late-stage Ph.D. students with an already well-established direction of research, but whose research would benefit from guidance provided by peers and senior colleagues. Preference will be given to students who have a clearly defined topic and program of work underway. They have likely proposed their topics and are within 2 years of graduation within a 5 year program or are half way through a 3 (or 4) year program. The DC committee will select up to 10 participants. These scholars will be expected to present their research for critique at the main DC event, interact with the conference around their poster at the reception, attend the full technical program, and the wrap-up meeting. APPLICATION: Applicants should submit the following items by email to DC@group2016.org with the subject line "GROUP 2016 DC Application" This should include TWO PDF attachments: overview and bio/cv. • A FOUR-page overview of your doctoral research project that describes your research question, work in progress, and expected contributions. This includes an abstract of no more than 100 words. Please submit your overview in the SIGCHI Extended Abstract Format (Word, Latex). • A short 1-paragraph biographical sketch (on its own page) appended to your up-to-date curriculum vitae. • Separately your supervisor should send an e-mail to DC@group2016.org indicating that they support your application and that they agree that your research is at an appropriate stage for participation. These letters should also make reference to how you might personally benefit from the DC and how you might contribute to the advancement of other participants. The email should have "GROUP 2016 DC: " + YOUR NAME in the subject header. DEADLINE: All submissions must be received by the chair by 11:59pm PDT on August 1, 2016. Submissions will be acknowledged by email once they have been checked for completeness. FUNDING We are hoping to offer financial support to DC participants. The details of this support will be announced in the future once sponsorship has been finalized. We anticipate that it will cover all on-site expenses for all participants including conference registration (at the “early bird” student rate), four nights of lodging in the conference hotel in a shared unit, meals during the working meetings, and ground transportation to/from RSW airport.
