aoir folks,
I'm very much learning from the posts on this list and from those of you who sent me private emails on the topic of key concepts/terms/metaphors. I'm interested, too, in the debates on these terms as I think Nancy and others are right in saying that most terms have different histories, do different kinds of work (have a different kinds of power or none at all, depending on the field), and thus have different *meanings*-- again, depending on the field. Discussing how we undertand certain terms/concepts in and across fields is very useful for me to hear -- as that is what the book is trying to explore: a way into helping upper-level undergrad students understand the charged (and sometimes invisible and differing) meanings that these 'common' terms carry in culture generally and among researchers in 'internet studies.' So, thanks, and look forward to hearing more in the next few days... best, Thom
