If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. *Details for the same are as follows:* Monsoon School on Digitalisation and Contested Modernities organised by Human Sciences Research Centre, IIIT- Hyderabad, 21st – 25th July, 2025. 21st-century modernity is shaped by global ICT infrastructures, the instantaneous flow of massive volumes of data, and the application of large language models to analyze this data. Yet, the evolution of digital technology is predicated on context-specific multiple digital modernities, which both shape and are shaped by the local structures – political, economic, socia,l and cultural. IIIT-Hyderabad is organizing a week-long Monsoon School to interrogate key issues at the interface between digital technology, modernity, and Indian society. The Monsoon School will investigate the multi-faceted interface between digital technology and modernity from the vantage point of the Global South, in particular, India. The deliberations will aim to delineate the specific contours of digital modernity for India. Topics to be Covered 1. Digital Technology and the Indian Economy: Digital production, circulation of value, challenges of informality, and financial flows in contemporary Indian societies 2. The State and Digitalisation: Governance, infrastructure, and state formation within the ‘Digital India’ framework 3.Culture in the Age of Digital Reproduction: Historicizing cultural and technological transformations, Changing consumptions with the advent of digital platforms, Subject formation and the digital. 4. Conceptualizing Digitalisation: Philosophical perspectives on digitalisation, modernity, and technoscience Eligibility: Graduates in any discipline, ideally enrolled in a postgraduate or doctoral programme. In exceptional cases, advanced undergraduate students (3rd year or above) may be considered. Fees: Rs. 3,500 (including registration, meals during the workshop, without accommodation); Rs. 6,000 (including registration, meals during the workshop, and shared accommodation in IIIT hostel) Application Process: Apply with a CV and a statement of interest to participate in the Monsoon school (within 1000 words).
