But if I recall, atlas-ti is just a coding program, not a transcription program, correct? You still have to take your transcribed text and then run atlas on it for coding. I have also been trying to find a good program that will transcribe an interview from a recording, and that hasn't been easy. I use a Mac variant of Dragon for my own verbal dictation of reports, and have been advised that on previous versions, at least, the easiest thing to do was to play back your recording in small chunks which you then orally repeat to the Dragon software. Sounds like a pain, but I've been told that it increases your transcription speed 30% or more, once you get a system down. New word on the street is that the newer PC Dragon software can do a fair transcription from recordings, but I haven't tried the PC version (It isn't advised to do direct transcription from recordings with the Mac version -- so it says in their handbook.) Good luck, I'm sure there's a lot of us out here who want to know what's available (and actually works!) Suellen Rader Regonini, M.Ed. hi stephanie
i used atlas-ti for my thesis. the advantage of this software is that it also works with other media than text and different researchers can easily collaborate using the same data. just to name a few advantages. and if you can use the student version it has a reasonable price!
best

Hi all,
I am in the beginning stages of my dissertation research, which involves in-depth qualitative interviews and am looking into transcription software packages (such as Dragon). I am aiming to have about 50-75 interviews, so transcribing them myself isn't the best option for me. I haven't heard too much about the software however. Does anyone have experience with this? Any insight is greatly appreciated!
