Hi Liubov, There's a proliferation of online tools for public engagement, with still limited knowledge about what really works. The most often used tool for top-down public engagement, since the Obama Administration came to office, has been crowdstorming or ideation, tools like: http://uservoice.com/ http://ideascale.com/ http://sites.force.com/ideaexchange Two collaboratively developed resources that are quite useful on this topic are: http://participatedb.com/ - including case studies https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AqytvUDA8bQ9dDI0djFyMjNMUTR4alNJQTk... filled out by practitioners Finally, here's just a smattering of examples of a variety of online public engagement: http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mpls-seward <http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mpls-seward%20> http://vancouver.uservoice.com/forums/56390-gc-2020 http://apps.facebook.com/whitehouselive/ <http://apps.facebook.com/whitehouselive/%20> http://apps.facebook.com/speakup-enparler/action/71 <http://apps.facebook.com/speakup-enparler/action/71%20> http://iat.ubalt.edu/MDBudgetGame/budgetmap.html <http://iat.ubalt.edu/MDBudgetGame/budgetmap.html%20> http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/11/13/weekinreview/deficits-graphic.... http://growthsummit.metroquest.com/#/challenge FWIW, I teach a workshop on this subject at Simon Fraser University DLOG752 http://www.sfu.ca/dialog/study+practice/certificate.html Good luck with your research. Greetings everyone! My name is Liubov Doerr. I am researching some instances of online tools for productive civic engagement. I am an intern with the National Policy Consensus Center and a graduate student in Portland State University Conflict Resolution Program . I am currently working on a research project for NPCC on citizen engagement and online tools.
In particular, I am looking for examples or ideas of platforms and tools that have been used/could be used online for information purposes and for a dialogue between decision-makers and the public.
If any of you is interested in discussing those questions with me, feel free to write to me at liubovd@pdx.edu Your input will be appreciated. Thank you for your assistance! Liubov
