The Donald McGannon Communication Research Center at Fordham University is pleased to announce the co-winners of the 2014 Donald McGannon Award for Social and Ethical Relevance in Communication Technology Research: Low Power to the People (MIT) by Christina Dunbar-Hester of Rutgers University and the University of Southern California and The War on Learning (MIT) by Elizabeth Losh of the College of William and Mary. This is the first award under the center’s revised mission to further understanding of the ethical and social justice dimensions of media and communication technologies. Both books were deemed by the review committee to make substantial contributions to the study of the social and ethical implications of communication technologies. The award carries with it a $2,000 prize and is named in the honor of Donald H. McGannon, former CEO of Westinghouse Broadcasting and a 1940 graduate of Fordham University.
