[Air-l] netlabels

As far as i understand: a netlabel is a platform, to where musicians (music producers) can upload their (often electronic) music. net users can download the (mostly) mp3-music for free. up-coming artists are promoted by that platform: sometimes, the netlabel organizes events. Normally, the netlabel music is licensed by creative commons. Does anybody know studies over netlabels?
