The Institute for Information Policy at the College of Communications at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to support the establishment of a new online journal and a new academic research forum. This is a two-year non-renewable full time position beginning in August 2010. The appointee will be expected to support the work of the Institute in establishing the journal and research forum, to serve as managing editor of the journal, once established, and to contribute to the ongoing work of the Institute. The appointee is also expected to participate in the preparation and presentation of research generated at the Institute, and author, co‐ author or collaborate on reports, conference papers, publications and other outputs. The appointee will be encouraged to further develop her or his own research interests. An opportunity to teach in the College’s undergraduate program may also be available for additional compensation. A Ph.D. in communications or a related field obtained by the time of appointment and a research focus in communication and information policy is required. A publication record in the field is an advantage. The Institute for Information Policy (IIP), created in 1997 in the College of Communications, conducts sponsored research and self-funded programs on the social implications of information technology, with an emphasis on the potential of information technologies for improving democratic discourse, social responsibility, and quality of life.
