Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to invite you to submit your work to the minitrack "Dark Sides and Criminal Uses of Digital and Intelligent Technologies," which I am co-chairing as part of the upcoming Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-59), to be held January 6–9, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Resort, Maui, Hawaii. This minitrack explores the negative consequences of digitalization and artificial intelligence at the individual, organizational, and societal levels. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and technical contributions examining topics such as: Algorithmic bias, datafication, and fairness Addictive and impulsive technology use Cyberviolence, cybercrime, and digital deviance Misinformation, deepfakes, and ethical challenges of generative AI Psychological effects of digital technologies, including technostress Security breaches, phishing, ransomware, and online scams Policy and regulatory implications We aim to foster critical reflection and discussion about the risks posed by digital and intelligent technologies, as well as strategies and interventions to mitigate these dark sides.
