Dear AoIR colleagues, The Joyce Morris Early Years Literacies Forum at University of East Anglia is delighted to announce an upcoming public lecture presented in collaboration with the British Sociological Association's Digital Sociology Group. On Wednesday 13th November, we will be welcoming Professor Sonia Livingstone to the University of East Anglia for a public lecture exploring the question: Can young children benefit from using digital technology or is it time for a ban? Professor Livingstone is a professor in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Director of Digital Futures for Children. She has published 20 books exploring the impact of media on different audiences, with a significant focus on the impact of technologies on children. She has advised the UK government, the European Commission, European Parliament, Council of Europe, UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and many others, on children's internet safety and rights in the digital environment. Professor Livingstone has served as chair of the LSE's Truth, Trust and Technology Commission, Special Advisor to the House of Lords' Select Committee on Communications, Expert Advisor to the Council of Europe, President of the International Communication Association, and Executive Board member of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety. It is truly an honour to welcome Professor Livingstone to UEA to discuss her work with us, and explore the relationship between childhood and technology.
