Hi, Christopher, I've found Nathan Ensmenger's and Michael Mahoney's work very helpful in understanding the social history of computing. Michael Mahoney's webpage lists articles he wrote on the history of computing: http://www.princeton.edu/~mike/computing.html Sadly, he is recently deceased. You can find Ensmenger's publications here: http://web-facstaff.sas.upenn.edu/~nathanen/publications/ He has a new book coming out I *think* with MIT Press, but it's not announced yet on the MIT Press site. Good luck with your work! -Annette Annette Vee Ph.D. Candidate in English Program in Composition and Rhetoric University of Wisconsin-Madison ----- Original Message ----- From: Christopher Richter <crichter@hollins.edu> Date: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 2:51 pm Subject: [Air-L] Social Histories of information technologies To: air-l <air-l@listserv.aoir.org>
I would appreciate any recommendations for histories, especially social histories, of computing or information tech.
Thanks!
